Do-It-Best!

June 17th, 2008 by Emily

This is some crap! Apparently, Danny and I are crashing the Do-It-Best Party- unsuccessfully. There is a city-wide customer service conference the weekend of our wedding called the Do-It-Best Convention. We have been researching hotels for the weekend of the wedding and have been told “oh, sorry there is a city wide conference that weekend. We’re booked.” The first 5 times I heard this response I thought, no problem there are a million great hotels downtown. After the next 5 I thought, huh, this could start sucking. Then after the next 5 things got grim. There is a light at the end of the tunnel though… two hotels do have blocks of rooms available downtown. The unfortunate truth is that the price is less than desirable. There are countless hotels 10-15 minutes outside the city with GREAT rates however. Now the question is how do we get people from downtown to the hotel safely after the reception. What do you think… Price or Convenience?

After all the drama we had with room blocks thanks to MotoGP I’d recommend blocking one hotel downtown and then one maybe closer to the suburbs? All of our room blocks are in the suburbs (and only two of our 4 are inside 465) and our guests haven’t seemed to have a problem with that.

If you need to talk about it feel free to shoot me an e-mail, I had plenty of experience being told “no”!

We had the same issue with MotoGP, except we couldn’t find any downtown hotels that would give up a room block. And this was for an event that had never even been to the city before! Jess has actually had a lot of hotels call her and say they have room blocks available now, but it’s a bit too late for that. We didn’t have much of a choice but to go with hotels around the 465 loop.

hmmm…this is a really tough call. I would say go with the places slightly outside, because a 10-15 minute drive won’t be bad. If you consider that most of the younger crowd (friends) can easily find couches to crash on downtown, I think the older crowd might even prefer to stay a bit outside of all the craziness-especially if there’s a conference going on at the same time. You can’t really enjoy yourself if you are the odd man out at a hotel full of people coming for one event-and it’s not your wedding.
